Considering All the Facts

“So, friends, every day do something that won’t compute … Give your approval to all you cannot understand … Ask the questions that have no answers. Put your faith in two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years … Laugh. Be joyful though you have considered all the facts … Practice resurrection.”

Wendell Berry

Today I stared out the window as the sun rose, painting the branches I could see and the two tall trees across the alley, the most brilliant rose gold. Today I also worried about what the quality of the air will be in 20 years. Will this nature I am learning to fall in love with and teaching Leander to explore be able to be enjoyed? Sometimes we have to do as Wendell Berry says in this quote and be joyful even though we have considered the facts. The fact is we need to make changes. Us, you, me, our cities, provinces and countries. The other fact is, becoming depressed about how far gone it is already won’t do it any good. Be joyful, and be active.

“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.”
Wendell Berry
